Simple and Effective Relief for Ingrown Toenails
Conservative treatment for ingrown toenails is a safe, sterile, and effective option when the problem has occurred for the first time. The procedure is usually completed within 10–15 minutes and provides immediate pain relief.
Using specialised podiatry instruments, the podiatrist carefully trims and removes the small section of nail that has grown into the skin, relieving pressure and discomfort. This treatment is not classified as nail surgery and is typically performed without anesthetic. However, local anesthetic is available if preferred (30-minute appointment required, additional cost applies).
Before treatment, your toe and nail are thoroughly assessed for signs of infection, healing capacity, and any potential complications. We also evaluate the shape and behaviour of your nail to determine whether the ingrown toenail is likely to recur or if it was a one-off issue.
While conservative management provides effective relief, it does not prevent future ingrown toenails. If recurrence is likely, we will discuss this with you and explain all available treatment options so you can make an informed decision. If a longer-term solution is required, the next step may be a Partial Nail Avulsion.
